Glisodin®

The first orally-bioactive superoxide dismutase (SOD) – An anti-ageing and antioxidant catalyst.

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is a primary antioxidant. The body’s antioxidant supply can be classified into two groups:

  • Enzymatic antioxidants, that are made by the body, thus internally provided, and include SOD, catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (Gpx) – They are primary antioxidants, and the first and most powerful line of defence against oxidative stress.
  • Dietary antioxidants, which are externally obtained from food, and include vitamins (C, E and A) and minerals (selenium, zinc, copper and manganese). These antioxidants contribute to the antioxidant reserve, yet play a secondary role to the body’s own antioxidants.

SOD is one of the most important antioxidants: It neutralises the most dangerous forms of oxygen, the superoxide radicals, into ions that are less reactive. This process makes it possible for the other two antioxidants: CAT and Gpx to destroy them. If the body cannot eliminate these free radicals, it will suffer from oxidative stress that can lead to other health problems.

SOD also plays a role in its ability to affect the immune system, inflammatory cytokines and other noxious agents.
